Yes. The outer shell is 22 momme mulberry silk, which is the heavy end of the range for a sleep mask: most of what you'll find sits between 16 and 19. The padding inside is polyester fibre, because silk on its own would flatten within a week. We'd rather tell you that than let you find out.

By hand, in cool water, with a little mild detergent. No bleach, no fabric softener. Press the water out rather than wringing it, reshape it flat and dry it in the shade. Never a dryer, never direct sun, and close the fastening first so it doesn't catch on the silk. If it needs pressing, a cool iron on the reverse.

That's the one thing we'd test first too. The band is wide and the fastening sits at the back of the head rather than over the ear, so there's nothing to press into the pillow and work itself loose. If it shifts on you, it's usually a touch too loose: pull it a centimetre tighter and give it another night before you give up on it.

Less than you'd expect, and less than a flat mask. The contoured edge sits against the bridge instead of bridging over it, so the gap either side of the nose mostly closes. We're not going to tell you it's a hundred per cent, because no mask with a nose in the way is, but it's the difference between a room that's dim and a room that's dark.

Lash extensions are fine. The padding holds the silk off the lash line rather than pressing it flat, which is most of the reason to buy a contoured mask instead of a flat one. With skincare, give anything oily or heavy a few minutes to absorb first: silk will take a mark from a thick night cream, and it washes out, but you'd rather not.
